Celebration of International Day of the African Child

On 16th June, 2025 a team from Modern Thinkers Foundation paid a visit to Dukusen M/A Basic School which was in connection with International Day of the African Child, a day dedicated to recognizing the rights, needs, and potential of African children. African children face numerous challenges, including limited access to quality education. It was sad to see the children sitting on floor in this era because of inadequate furniture. These are major gaps in the educational sector and they present opportunities for growth, innovation, and progress. We must work together to address these challenges and ensure that every African child has the chance to thrive and thrive with confidence.

As part of the visit, Modern Thinkers Foundation donated some learning materials including books, pens, pencils, sharpeners and multiple coloured wax sticks (crayons) for all grades. We reaffirm our commitment as an organisation to promoting the rights, well-being, and development of African children. We took the opportunity to advise the SMC Chairman and the community leadership to own the school and further provide protection for the children and the teachers at all times. We also used the occasion to encourage the students to study hard and assured them of our continuous support.

United Nations International Day of Older Persons

Theme: “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights”

The 2025 United Nations International Day of Older Persons, observed under the theme “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights”, highlights the transformative role older persons play in building resilient and equitable societies. Far from being passive beneficiaries, older persons are drivers of progress, contributing their knowledge and experience in areas such as health equity, financial well-being, community resilience, and human rights advocacy. The 2025 theme directly reflects the recognition of older persons as drivers of progress at both local and global levels.

It was an exciting day in Agogo when we celebrated our distinguished older persons from different communities and suburbs. The celebration was to honour their extraordinary contributions that have shaped the community and the country we live in. Modern Thinkers Foundation believes that a person’s purpose in life does not expire with their age. Therefore, the concerns of older persons must be considered in both national and sub-national governance because it is a matter of human rights, economic necessity, and social equity.
